Trauma & Fractures

Overview

Orthopaedic trauma focuses on the treatment of fractures (broken bones) and/or soft tissue injury resulting from a traumatic event, such as a fall workplace injury, sports, car accident, or just plain bad luck. If not properly treated, these injuries can result in limited function, chronic pain and disability. These injuries affect patients of all ages. Prompt diagnosis and treatment is essential for fracture healing and recovery.

Many broken bones can be treated without surgery utilizing casting, bracing, or other types of immobilization. Displaced or unstable fractures may require surgical intervention to provide internal fixation with hardware (plates, screws, pins, wires, etc.). Internal fixation provides stabilization to allow early rehabilitation during the healing process.
